Tonight, builders learning about what should be a huge economic boom to the Tri-State: the IU School of Medicine.

Homebuilders expect a big boom in their business when the school opens because of the influx of faculty, staff, and students that will need someplace to live.

While the school is still years away, we expect to know a whole lot more in a few weeks about what the school of medicine will be.

IU School of Medicine Director Steven Becker says by the end of November, they'll have the official documents explaining the size of the school. Though there aren't specifics about building and location, it's more than just a building.

"This is much more than just the IU School of Medicine," said Dr. Becker. "What this program is going to do is first of all help us have enough health care providers for our community for then next 30 years."

Warrick County and The Martin Group have already unveiled plans for the school to be built near I-164 and Deaconess Gateway hospital. Evansville leaders are planning to submit a proposal to build the school downtown, and USI is considering a west side campus for the medical school.
