A bill in the Kentucky Senate proposes allowing residents to carry guns in establishments that serve alcohol.

The bill is sponsored by State Senator John Schickel. He says it would allow people to carry firearms in bars and restaurants as long as they're not drinking.

Some bar owners are opposed to the idea, saying it doesn't make sense to ban smoking in bars but allow loaded guns.

But there is bipartisan support for the measure in the Kentucky legislature.
