National parks across the country opened Thursday, including the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Spencer County. Workers said they're glad to be back on the job after being furloughed for 16 days.
Gus Ferguson has been manicuring the lawns at the memorial for 25 years. He said seeing the overgrown grass drove him crazy.
"I don't like letting my job get behind because that's the first thing people see when they get here," Ferguson said.
Park Rangers said more than 40 people visited the memorial Thursday, making it an above average day.
