Lt. Kirk Byram Running for Vanderburgh Co. Sheriff

Lt. Kirk Byram files for Vanderburgh County Sheriff today.
Lt. Kirk Byram files for Vanderburgh County Sheriff today. If elected, he would become the first Republican in more than 30 years to be the sheriff of Vanderburgh County.

Current Sheriff Eric Williams has already served his two consecutive terms allowed in Indiana.

"I think our agency is a great agency right now," said Lt. Byram. "I think any agency can improve. My big focus is on community policing. I want to get back out in the community, touch base with the neighborhoods, let people know we're there to help them out. I think we've fallen of that a little over the years from when I came on 20 years ago. So, community policing is really big, and it's important to me."

Chief Deputy Dave Wedding is expected to run as a Democrat. The primary will be in May, with the general election this November.
