The developer claims the Mayor was inflating the number of jobs it will create and says the success of the hotel as planned is questionable.
"He says it will employ 250 people," said Dunn, "but it will be more like 90. The thing I asked him was who's driving the bus? Who's behind this? Why do you want to do something like this when your study even said it's not going to make it?"
Today, we asked Mayor Winnecke for a response.
He sent us this: "Our administration is committed to building a new downtown convention hotel that will create jobs, attract new investment, and bring convention business back to Evansville. The city has conducted a thorough process supported by data and reaffirmed by experts in the tourism industry. We wish Mr. Dunn well with his current hotel properties and hope that he continues to be a good corporate citizen."
As we have reported, Evansville City Council has delayed a final vote on the hotel. It could now come within the next two weeks.
