Millions Of 'Snapchat' Accounts Hacked

Hackers publish Snapchat user names and at least partial phone numbers online.
A popular social-sharing app has been hit by hackers.

Account information for 4.6 million Snapchat users appeared online Tuesday (Dec. 31.)

The app lets people share photos or short videos that disappear after a few seconds.

User names and at least partial phone numbers were available for download on a website. By late Wednesday morning, that site had been suspended.

The hackers released a statement to technology blog, "Techcrunch." In it, they said they released the information in an effort to put pressure on Snapchat to beef up security.
