Here in the Tri-State, students at Daniel Wertz Elementary School took part in the drill, which raises awareness for earthquake preparedness.
Walt Gray with the Indiana Geological Survey says this area is especially vulnerable to feeling an impact of a tremor.
"Vanderburgh County and surrounding area homes and infrastructure is built on a flood plane material and as seismic waves enter that geological material it will amplify. So the shaking intensity will be greater in this area than anywhere else in the state", Gray said.
There are steps you can take to protect yourself in the event of an earthquake. Drop and get as low to the ground as possible, cover and get underneath something sturdy like a table or desk and hold on to your cover tightly as the shaking of an earthquake may move you around.
