Two southern Illinois schools are off lockdown following an afternoon chase. South School and St. Mary's School in Mt. Carmel were placed on lockdown just after 2 p.m.
Sheriff's deputies say a man told them two people tried to beat him up as he left the courthouse. Witnesses told investigators one of the men had a knife, and both ran toward the schools.
The suspects were found a short time later. Both are 17 years old, and no names are being released.
