Mysterious Odor Stumps Vectren Officials

A strange smell, described by some as sweet, yet rotten, filled the air across part of the Tri-State Thursday morning.
A strange smell, described by some as sweet, yet rotten, filled the air across part of the Tri-State Thursday morning.  Concerned neighbors, worried the odor may have been a gas leak, quickly alerted Vectren.

Vectren spokesperson, Chase Kelley, tells Eyewitness News, calls started coming in Boonville, and eventually from Newburgh and Evansville.

Kelley says crews have been investigating, but have found no evidence the smell is the result of a gas leak.  Kelley told us she also detected the smell and says it appeared to have a sewage odor to it.

As for exactly what Tri-Staters were detecting, that remains a mystery.  We'll let you know if and when this mystery is solved.  Meanwhile, did you notice the odor?  Head to our Facebook page and let us know.
