Evansville fire officials are investigating an overnight house fire they call extremely suspicious. The fire broke out around 12:30 Thursday morning at a house near the corner of Lincoln and Dexter.

A bystander reported the fire around 12:30 Thursday morning. Firefighters arrived and quickly put out the flames. The investigator says one wall was burnt from the basement all the way through the roof.

Nobody was home at the time, but the house appears to have been ransacked, according to investigators. A few hours later, crews were called back to scene as the fire began to rekindle.

Officials think the fire may have been deliberately set, but they're still investigating.
"I didn't even know who owned it because they would never come out and talk," said Mike House, a neighbor. "You don't want to go and impose on anybody when you don't know them.
That's the reason i just kept away."

Property records show the house belongs to a woman named Korby Dempsey. Fire officials say the investigation is ongoing.
