New Year Brings New Speed Limits in Illinois

The majority of interstates in Illinois now have a 70 mph speed limit instead of 65 mph.
The new year brings several new changes for drivers in Illinois. The majority of interstates now have a 70 mph speed limit instead of 65 mph. All existing speed limits in Chicago will remain the same.

Illinois joins Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan in the '70 mph club.' Wisconsin remains at 65 mph.

The Illinois Dept. of Transportation said, weather permitting, crews will be changing the signs between Jan. 2 and Jan. 17.

Drivers in the state are also now required to use a hands-free device when talking on the phone and driving.
