Evansville police arrested one man Friday in connection with cases of counterfeit cash in the Tri-State. Brian Acker, 34, was arrested after EPD found more than $700 worth of fake $20 bills at his home. Officers said Acker got the counterfeit money from someone else, but knew it was fake. Investigators said counterfeit bills have popped up at places like Domino's Pizza, Tropicana Casino and CVS.
"The first red flag is the way the it's been cut," Sgt. Jason Cullum said. "One of the other things that's easy to check is the color changing ink. When you turn it back and forth, you'll see it go from gold to green if it's a legitimate bill.
Cullum said individuals should be just as cautious as businesses, and to contact authorities if people receive suspicious looking bills. Especially, he said, with Fall Festival approaching.
