Owensboro Police Working to Keep Schools Safer

Owensboro Police are starting a new program for safer schools.
Owensboro Police are starting a new program for safer schools. They introduced their Adopt-A-School program at 13 schools across the city.

Officers will make random visits to help deter crime by being around more often. Owensboro Catholic and public schools are among those participating.

"The officers that have been assigned to the schools," said Officer Michael Hathaway, "will know the layout of the school, will know the lock down procedures of the school, will know key personnel at school as well as administrative personnel."

Officer Hathaway says schools that already have resource officers in place aren't affected. Several other police departments across Kentucky have similar programs already in place.
