The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announces some changes to a $1.4 million roundabout project in Owensboro. Officials presented the modifications at a public meeting Thursday night at Sorgho Elementary School. Farmers have been voicing their concerns about driving their equipment through the roundabout at the intersection of KY 81 and KY 56. They said they are worried about getting through the area safely, and believe the curbs will damage their tires. But after a few public meetings, engineers said they will widen the roundabout in a few places, and replace some of the medians with a curb that vehicles can roll up on.
"They raised some points that we felt like we could make an improvement on to help them. So over the last two and a half weeks or so, we've gone back and gotten back with the consultant engineering firm, re-looked at some things, re-studied some different vehicles traversing through it and came up with some changes," Chief District Engineer, Kevin McClearn said.
Officials said they don't know how much money these changes will cost, or when construction will start again. But they say the roundabout will open this fall.
