President Obama says he is trying to make a college education more affordable. Part of that plan would create a university rating system, where federal financial aid will be tied to graduation rate and affordability.
USI is known as one of the more affordable schools in the Hoosier state. Some of the educators there are not in support of a federal grading system for universities.
"How are we going to be judged when we are already running a lean ship? We're already doing the things we should be doing. If we have to get leaner to gain points with a federal program that might be very difficult because we're already a lean ship," said USI Associate Professor Dr. Kent Scheller.
Dr. Scheller thinks a federal rating system will only complicate the situation. He recommends education be governed on the local level, without federal intervention.
