Proposed Rockport Plant Receives Extension on Air Quality Permit

Another victory for supporters of a proposed coal-gasification plant in Spencer County.
Another victory for supporters of a proposed coal-gasification plant in Spencer County. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is giving the plant a six month extension to begin construction.

IDEM granted an air quality permit to the plant months ago, but the permit required the company to begin construction within 18 months. Since that time, the plant has been caught in a legal and legislative battle, and the permit expired.

The extension gives contractors until the middle of June to begin work.
