The Red Cross is continuing its work supporting those hard-hit communities. Here in the Tri-State, local volunteers witnessed the devastation firsthand, including volunteer Ray Sullivan of Evansville. He was there two weeks after the storm providing food and cleaning supplies.
On Monday, Sullivan told us about the highlght of his trip...bringing even a few moments of joy to the victims.
"He's probably the most muscular man i've ever seen in my life, he's a powerlifter..huge man! He walks over to the truck and he's crying and he says your two meals a day are at least two hours worth of more work I can put in on my house so my daughters can have a place to come back to."
46 Tri-State volunteers responded to Sandy over the last year.
Tabnie Dozier brings us more of Sullivan's journey to the northeast later toight on Eyewitness News.
