Major improvements to emergency communications could be ready as soon as next Spring in Hopkins County. Renovations are underway on a new 911 center at the county court house in Madisonville.
Sheriff Frank Latham says they're also working on upgrading the emergency radio system. It's a project that's been in the planning stages for nearly nine years.
"The present dispatch center has, basically, run out of room where it's at," said Sheriff Latham. "The move over to the courthouse will give them ample room to expand that center."
The improvements cost nearly $3.5 million, paid for mostly by grants.
