Congressman Larry Bucshon meets with local fire chiefs to discuss the Affordable Care Act's impact on their departments. Buschon held a roundtable discussion in McCutchanville today.

The Affordable Care Act initially required to provide health care coverage to volunteer firefighters who work at least 30 hours per week. But the U.S. Treasury recently made an exemption for fire departments.

Bucshon says the act could have left several stations short-handed.

"There was concern," said Congressman Bucshon, "that we would have people not able to volunteer or that it would cost fire departments tremendous amounts of money for the fire departments to provide the coverage through the Affordable Care Act."

Bucshon says he hopes to discuss potential legislation that would develop a permanent solution for fire stations and health care coverage.
