As Eyewitness News reported Wednesday, the health department began investigating the suspected case last week, after the victim was admitted to the hospital. The man, according to health officials, died Wednesday night. The victim's name has not been released.
Hopkins County health officials say this is the first human death from West Nile in several years. They also say a horse in the area also recently tested positive for the virus.
