Among those threatened was the Meadowood Nursing Home, just across the street from the old school. Fire fighters worried the fire would spread to the nearby nursing home because of the wind. Nursing home officials say they had an evacuation plan in place, but thankfully, it wasn't needed.
"We made sure that the roof there was kept wet, and kept a vigilant eye on it, so there was no more excitement than just across the street from us," says nursing home administrator Mike Cunningham.
Cunningham says residents would have been taken to the Grayville Junior-Senior High School had evacuation been necessary.
