It's been a couple of months since Deaconess Gateway teamed up with Boston IVF to open a new fertility clinic at the Women's Hospital. This weekend the partnership proved a success with the clinic's first delivery. Before the Boston IVF teamed up with Deaconess Gateway Women's Hospital, Indianapolis or Louisville would have been the closest places for couples to receive such a full spectrum of reproductive services. Amy and Don Menger were the first couple to give it a try here, and they are glad they did.
"We realized pretty quickly that things weren't going to be easy for us." Amy and Don Menger had been trying to conceive for about a year when they decided to turn to the new fertility clinic at Deaconess Gateway. "We had so much disappointment going through trying to have a baby," says Amy Menger. The clinic found a plan that worked for the Mengers, and on Christmas Day their hope turned to reality with news Amy was pregnant. "Everything is healthy, but things could go wrong because things had been going wrong. Then they laid her on me and it was just, the world was different immediately," says Amy.
Ellen Grace arrived this weekend. She is the first baby born through the fertility clinic. "Just to hear them talk about their journey. It made me have chills. To know that we were there to help and support them, and be a part of what they brought into this world. She is a beautiful little baby," says Melissa Gough Boston IVF Practice Manager.
The Mengers say the clinic's staff became like family, helping them look forward to the future. "Seeing her grow up," says Amy. "I want her to experience everything i've enjoyed, and it's going to be great to be able to pass down those experiences to her," says Don. The Mengers did not have to receive an IVF treatment. Thankfully, some minor procedures worked first, but they say having hope is the most important thing. "Keep trying. All I can say is, keep trying because it is so worth it," says Don. "If we can use our story to provide hope to other couples. There is no greater gift in the world. This has been the most wonderful two days ever," says Amy.
The clinic offers things from basic boosters to in vitro fertilization, and serves as one of the largest fertility clinics in the country.
