Thursday Morning Fire Called Suspicious

An investigation is underway into an overnight fire in Evansville.
An investigation is underway into an overnight fire in Evansville.

A city fire investigator tells Eyewitness News, a house fire at the corner of Dexter and Lincoln Avenues is suspicious.

A bystander reported the fire around 12:30 Thursday morning.  Firefighters arrived and quickly put out the flames.  The investigator says one wall was burnt from the basement all the way through the roof.

Nobody was home at the time, but the house appears to have been ransacked.  A few hours later, crews were called back to scene as the fire began to rekindle.

It's not clear yet if someone currently lives in the home.

Officials think the fire may have been deliberately set, but they're still investigating.
