Western Kentucky Man's Christmas Wish Comes True

A Western Kentucky man fighting a rare disease receives a touching Christmas wish from hundreds of people in support of his recovery.
A Western Kentucky man is receiving hundreds of Christmas cards in support of his recovery.

When Allen Stone went to sleep last May with a bad cold he slipped into a coma. When he woke up he was on a ventilator, fighting for his life, paralyzed from the neck down. Stone was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome -- a rare but curable disease.

He says last year he received around 150 cards while he underwent treatment in Louisville over the Christmas holiday. This year he playfully said he wanted to beat that record by collecting 200 cards. As of December 23, he's received around 775 cards.

"It gives me reason to keep going on with my therapy, to keep fighting every day, because I have at least 700 people that love me. That's enough to keep me going," said Stone. "I know it's just cards, but to me it's a lifeline to a whole lot of people -- and that means something."

Stone is undergoing rehab South of Madisonville in Princeton, Kentucky. If you would like to send Allen Stone a Christmas card, please send it to the following address:
