(VANDERBURGH COUNTY, IN) - Vanderburgh County Sheriff's deputies say a woman has died following a two vehicle crash Sunday morning on Highway 41.
The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes of US Highway 41 at Rusher Creek Rd. When deputies arrived, they found there were two vehicles involved in the crash. The first vehicle, a Buick Century, was driven by 67 year old Donna McIntire. The second vehicle involved in the crash, a Ford F-350, was driven by Dennis Vieira. Vieira was also pulling a care hauler type trailer with two vehicles onboard, according to deputies.
Investigators say the Buick Century was heading south on Highway 41 when it rear-ended the trailer the F-350 was pulling. Deputies say it appeared McIntire tried to stop at the last minute to avoid the collision. Deputies had to extricate the driver and the passenger of the Buick before they were transported to Deaconess Hospital. The passenger later died from her injuries. Her name has not been released pending family notification.
The driver and passenger of the Ford F-350 were not seriously injured. However, the driver was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for complaints of pain and for examination. The passenger of the F-350 refused medical treatment on scene.
Southbound Hwy 41 at Rusher Creek Rd was only opened to one lane of traffic for approximately 2 hours.
At this time is does not appear as though alcohol or drugs were a factor. The accident is still under investigation.
