Michael Gross

Michael is in his first year in the workforce as the Sports Director at Eyewitness News.

Even though he is from New Jersey, Michael began his time in broadcasting in Central New York at the State University at Oswego. Within one month, he had joined the student-run television station as a sports anchor on the nightly news and began doing play-by-play commentary on WTOP-10 TV. During his time at the station, Michael became the Assistant Sports Director and held that position for his final two years of undergrad. He also was the lead broadcaster for three College Broadcasters Inc. awards the station was recognized for.

Aside from television, Michael was a part of the student-run radio station (WNYO 88.9 FM) and student-run newspaper (The Oswegonian) at SUNY Oswego. During his time at WNYO, his radio show ‘The Hot Corner’ was one of the most listened to sports shows on the air for over two years in the Oswego area. His contributions also came in the form of play-by-play commentary, painting a picture to those listening to Oswego Lakers softball and baseball. At The Oswegonian, Michael found a passion as the Assistant Sports Editor during his final two years of undergrad. He was the beat writer for both Soccer and Baseball, while contributing stories for each of the other sports at the college. He still enjoys writing today, as much as he did during his college days.

After graduating in 2022, Michael elected to pursue his Master’s degree at the prestigious Newhouse School at Syracuse University. While there, he covered numerous Division 1 sports as a digital reporter for Sports Illustrated. Michael was also involved in many broadcasts on the ACC Network and ESPN in the role of on-air talent, as well as production crew, for numerous Syracuse athletic events. His internship with the Syracuse Sports Network on Learfield was during basketball season where he would assist Matt Park, the “Voice of the Orange,” on his radio pregame show and during games itself. Michael graduated from Syracuse in June of 2023 before moving to Evansville.

Some of Michael’s hobbies include playing basketball, going to the gym, playing the guitar and watching sports documentaries. His favorite sports are baseball, basketball and football. If you see Michael around town, recommend a good book for him to read (it does not have to be sports) or a good spot to eat!
