INDIANAPOLIS (WEHT) – Leon and Mark Schmitt of Jasper were among a select group of livestock producers honored for going above and beyond in their farm management by the Indiana State Department of Agriculture.

They were honored at an awards ceremony at the Indiana State Fair.

They are among the newest members of the Certified Livestock Producer program.

“These producers are going the extra mile in almost every aspect of their farm management, from ensuring the well-being of their animals to being good stewards of the environment,” Kettler said. “We’re proud to welcome them into the Certified Livestock Producer program.”

The producers had to work with their veterinarian to develop a biosecurity plan, meet with their local fire department to create an emergency plan, and participate in a quality assurance program.

Leon and Mark Schmitt work for Oakdale Partners.
