Jessica Wimsatt joined the Eyewitness News team as a sports reporter in November of 2016.
She grew up in the “other” Southern Indiana, just across the river from Louisville. Jessica graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, then continued her education at the National Sports Journalism Center in Indianapolis, graduating with a Master’s degree in Sports Journalism in May.
While at IU, Jessica spent her free time embedding herself in the sports broadcasting world. She spent her summers in internships that took her to New York City to intern at BronxNet TV, sunny Miami to intern with ESPN and NBC, and back to her roots in Louisville to intern at WDRB. During the school year, Jessica worked as a sideline reporter for BTN StudentU, reporter and anchor for IU Student Television, and digital video editor and reporter for IUSportCom, covering the Hoosiers in everything from men’s basketball and football to the Little 500. In grad school, the Student News Bureau gave her more opportunities, including internships with the IndyStar and Indiana Pacers and amazing experiences covering the College Football Playoff in Dallas, the 2015 Final Four in Indy, and the 2016 Olympic Diving Trials.
Upon graduation, Jessica began her professional career with the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever as a multimedia reporter. While she enjoyed her time with the Pacers, her true passion has always been working in front of the camera. Jessica is eager to continue covering many of the teams she grew up watching and to share her passion with the Tri-State.
Growing up in basketball country in Kentuckiana, Jessica developed a love for college hoops and the Kentucky Wildcats. When she’s not covering or watching sports, she enjoys riding horses, spending time with her family and friends, and exploring the outdoors with her canine sidekick, Lucy.
