John Hayden resigns from Evansville City Council

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Vanderburgh County Republican Party Chairman Wayne Parke confirmed on Friday morning that Evansville City Council member John Hayden resigned from his Ward 3 seat.

Parke said Hayden, a Republican, is resigning because he’s moving out of Ward 3.

Parke said the party will call a caucus to find a replacement.

Anyone wishing to run for the seat must live in Ward 3 and must give Parke a three-day notice of their intention.

Parke hopes to have a replacement chosen by the end of the month.

Republican Stephen Melcher is running for the Ward 3 seat in the fall against Democrat Zachary Heronemus.

Hayden replaced former City Council member, and fellow Republican, Anna Hargis after she stepped down in 2017.

Hargis stepped down because she took a job as a financial advisor, and the job required her not to hold public office.
