Gov. Beshear cites potential spike as reason for caution in reopening plan

Kentucky News

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — As restrictions begin to be lifted in Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear spoke to businesses in Owensboro Thursday morning — remotely.

The governor was the featured guest speaker at Thursday’s Rooster Booster, hosted by The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.

Governor Beshear said the reason he has chosen to be more cautious than other states like Indiana in his reopening plan is because of the potential for a dramatic spike in cases and deaths if reopening happens too soon.

“Especially those over 60 with heart, lung, or kidney disease please be really, really, careful. Just because you’re healthy doesn’t mean that you’re not significantly more at risk. If that’s an awkward conversation, I had it with both of my parents. Yes, it was a very awkward conversation,” said Governor Beshear.
