Another guest conductor visits Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes another guest conductor this weekend.

It’s part of its search to replace its out-going conductor.

Michelle Merrill is the third candidate to visit Evansville. She’ll be the guest conductor Saturday night.

Merril has been traveling conducting several different orchestras. She also served for 4 years as the associate conductor for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Merrill appeared on Lifestyles with Ange Humphrey to talk about her style.

“Every single person brings a different sound. You can have five different conductors and if we were all conducting the same piece hopefully that piece would sound differently and that’s just a testament to how one interrupts the music, how one’s physical gestures make the musician’s see the different sounds and that’s kind of the best part of being a conductor is you can experiment even within rehearsal.”

Current conductor Alfred Savia is stepping down at the end of the season.
