INDOT: Fatalities in work zones have increased since last year

Local

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH-TV) – The Indiana Department of Transportation says work zone fatalities have increased since last year.

At this time in 2018, there were four deaths in works zones, but now that number has gone up to seven.
INDOT is asking state police to monitor those work zones.

One change from last year, there’s a state trooper at the front of every lane restriction or closure with their lights on. It lets drivers know something is going on.

Last year there were more than 1,000 collisions in work zones across the state. This year, that number has increased to more than 1,100.
