EVANSVILLE,Ind.(WEHT)-The lights on U.S 41 South of Evansville were recently turned on but have been turned off. A rebuild called “Fix for 41” wrapped up this past November after two years of construction.
In a special report in December the Indiana Department of Transportation, (INDOT) is responsible for constructing and maintaining interstate highways,U.S. routes and state roads in Indiana, including adjacent overpasses, ramps and traffic control devices. INDOT said copper wiring had been stolen from the street light post and that would explain why all the lights were out from Waterwork road to I-69 interchange.
Recently, Eyewitness New was given new information that less wire was stolen than they first thought. INDOT said the lights were out because the contractor cut a line during the project and the wiring was stolen along the on and off ramps.
Those light are currently off as a safety precaution. They are currently waiting on equipment that should be here by the end of the month.
