LISTEN: The 9-1-1 call from police action shooting over the weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT)– We’re waiting for more information from Evansville Police after a police action shooting over the weekend. It happened early Saturday morning on Evansville’s southeast side. Police say it started with a call from a man claiming to have shot someone. We have the 9-1-1 calls and radio traffic from the incident. We want to warn you, the details could be disturbing to some.

DISPATCH: “Evansville 9-1-1.”

The man on the other end, asking for help.

CALLER: “I just need the police. 2613 Pollack, Apartment. Because I’m about to kill somebody right now.”

It’s the start of a run for Evansville Police that ended in another police action shooting. The caller explaining again what he had done.

CALLER:” Apartment B. I just killed somebody.”
DISPATCH: “You just killed somebody?
CALLER: “Yes I did.”

When the woman on the other end went to ask more questions…

DISPATCH: “How did you do that?”
CALLER: “I shot the mother! I’m about to shoot somebody else!”

Officers were sent to the apartment on pollack avenue.

DISPATCH: ” 2 Edward 3-5-0 and any other car to assist for a shots fired. 2613 Pollack Avenue Apartment B. A male says he just shot someone and says he’s about to shoot someone else.”

The man who claimed to have shot someone wasn’t holding a gun. He had knives in each hand.

OFFICER: “We have an armed subject in the house.”

Someone who lives nearby says they heard it happen.

“I heard them yelling again, ‘get on the ground’.”

THAT WAS AFTER THIS…

OFFICER: “Shots fired.”

DISPATCH: “Clear. Shots fired. Other units hurry up.”

EPD says the man was shot in the arm after officers asked him to drop the weapons. They also say he’s expected to survive his injuries. They searched the apartment and didn’t find any shooting victims.

Evansville police say they will likely release more information on the shooting including possible body cam video Tuesday.

This is the third police action shooting in Evansville since October.
