Aces fire Marty Simmons

Sources tell Eyewitness News that Simmons was fired, and that this was not a mutual decision.

In 2016, Simmons had signed a contract extension with the university.

However, the university press release did not detail the length of Simmons’ contract.

University of Evansville men’s basketball coach Marty Simmons has been released, according to sources at the university.

Athletic Director Mark Spencer says a formal statement will be released on Simmons’ status Wednesday, but he did not confirm or deny the news.

Prior to his return to Evansville in 2007, Simmons served as head coach for five years at Division II Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

The Purple Aces finished the 2017/18 season with a 17-15 record.
