Wednesday morning about 7:30, the Daviess County Sheriffs Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at State Road 64 at County Road 650 W, about two-and-a-half-miles west of Huntingburg.
Sheriffs say 40-year-old Lori Toby, from Stenal, Indiana, and an underage passenger, were traveling eastbound on State Road 64, and stopped to turn left onto County Road 650.
Toby was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear when she was rear-ended by 87-year-old Emil Maier, a resident of Velpen, Indiana.
Authorities say Maier did not brake prior to the collision.
It is unknown, sheriffs say, if Maier suffered some sort of medical event that caused his death prior to the collision, or if Maier died in injuries from the accident.
Authorities say Toby and her passenger refused treatment, but they were taken by car to a local hospital and later released.
State Road 64 was closed for nearly two hours while the scene was cleared.
The cause of death is pending further investigation by the Dubois County Coroner.
