A Gibson County, Indiana child has died after a large tree branch falls unexpectedly over the weekend.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office and the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of Anastasia Abell, 13 months, of Fort Branch.

Little Anastasia died Monday June 1, 2015.

Officials with the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office say she and her father were struck by a falling tree limb Saturday, May 30 at the home of a relative in Gibson County.

The limb, described at 20 feet long and roughly 12 inches in diameter, fell unexpectedly from a height of about 50 feet.

Authorities say preliminary indications are that this was a tragic accident and that the limb did not fall as the result of human tampering or intervention.
