Bill would require digital apps to tell you what country they’re from

WASHINGTON D.C. (WEHT) – A Florida Senator wants to make sure you know where your apps come from, by introducing the Prime Act, which would require digital apps to make clear their country of origin when you download them.

From the apps we download to the stuff we buy online; it’s all supposed to make life easier or at least a little more fun.

How many of us actually know where it’s all coming from?

Sen. Rick Scott said his “Prime Act” would make it easier to find out.

Recent revelations that the popular FaceApp was actually developed in Russia set off alarm bells.

Scott said it’s a reminder that consumers need to know where their money and data is going to make informed choices.

The Prime Act will also require app sellers to disclose the countries where the developer, publisher, and parent corporation are based.
