The Castle High School Bands will be receiving an international award on Tuesday night.

The Castle Band Program will have its final presentation of the year at the All Band Festival on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The John Philip Sousa Foundation will award the program a rare international recognition, the Sudler Shield Award.

The award recognizes high school marching and band programs that have achieved a world class level of excellence.

On Saturday, Castle’s concert band competed at the Indiana State School Music Association State Finals in Indianapolis. The State Finals featured the top 16 concert bands in the state of Indiana. Castle walked away being recognized as sixth place out of the top 16.

This was the 20th year that the Castle Concert Bands competed in the ISSMA State Finals.

Earlier this year, the Castle Winter Percussion Ensemble was crowned Indiana State Champions.

Not long after that, the Castle Jazz Band was invited to perform in the ISSMA Jazz Band state competition. This year, Castle’s Jazz Band was recognized above all other Jazz bands as the “2017 Jazz Honor Band,” effectively being recognized as Indiana State Jazz Band Champions.
