Chandler man arrested after short stand-off

CHANDLER, Ind. (WEHT) – The Chandler Police Department says a man was arrested after a short stand-off Friday morning.

Chandler Police, the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police were sent to a home on North Ohio Street for a domestic disturbance. They say Steven Dossett, 39, of Chandler was threatening to harm himself and possibly attempting to arm himself with a firearm.

Warrick County Dispatchers also said he was destroying furniture and other things in the home before police arrived.

Officers say they attempted to make contact with Dossett without success. We’re told a perimeter was set up around the home and there was a short stand-off.

Police say the Evansville Police Department SWAT was asked to assist, but Dossett surrendered peacefully before they were needed.

Dossett was taken into custody for outstanding felony warrants out of Lawrence County, possession of methamphetamine, theft, and resisting law enforcement.

Police believe alcohol was involved.

Authorities believe a female resident fired a single shot from her handgun inside the residence to try to get Dossett to leave. Police say the female was unable to call 911 herself, so an acquaintance arrived and helped her leave through the back door and called 911.

Dossett was booked in the Warrick County jail.
