Child Support Warrant Amnesty Week in Henderson

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — From Monday. December 9th – Friday, December 13th, parents who have outstanding child support warrants in Henderson County have the chance to discuss their case in order to avoid being arrested and going to jail.

“This is a chance for them to come into the office and work with us to come up with ways to get it back on track. We also are aware that nobody can pay child support while they’re in jail. So it’s a win win for everybody if they can work this out without the warrant being served and we can get it squashed and they end up getting everything back on track,” said Henderson County Attorney Steve Gold.

Those who voluntarily come forward will meet with a child support attorney who will help determine the payment option that is best suited for their specific case.

“When it gets that far sometimes people feel like it’s hard to get things back on track, and that’s why we want to extend this opportunity to allow them to maybe go back down the ladder of bad things happening,” said Gold.

The idea is simple: One trip to the Henderson County Courthouse, could save you a trip to the Henderson County Judicial Center and possibly keep you out of handcuffs.

Those who schedule a meeting will need to verify proof of employment, make a lump sum payment or schedule automated electronic payments from a bank account, and provide updated contact information. A Henderson Family Court Judge has agreed to review any outstanding child support warrant that the County Attorney’s Office recommends be recalled during the 2019 Child Support Warrant Amnesty Week.

“No, we don’t want anybody arrested, but we also want to see the child support get paid,” said Gold.

It is estimated there are currently 200-300 warrants for child support cases in Henderson County.
