City of Henderson to close basketball courts, playgrounds

News

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- The City of Henderson announced all basketball courts and playgrounds will be closed to public use starting at 5 PM Friday evening as a pre-caution to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

City officials say that since basketball is a contact sport that does not “support” social distancing, the courts will be closed “until the threat has passed.” Likewise, authorities say playground equipment can be a means of viral transmission unless used responsibly and will be shut down.

The news comes after Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced Thursday he is asking local officials to monitor and potentially close public parks temporarily. Earlier Friday, the Daviess County Fiscal Court announced it is temporarily closing some public parks, including basketball courts.
