POSEY COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – A Posey County Judge has sentenced a convicted child molester to 22 years in prison.

26-year-old Carlampio Lopez was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to two counts of child molesting.

As part of his guilty plea, Lopez admitted he molested two girls under 14 around June 2018.

Lopez, who was 24 at the time, lived with the two young girls and their mother in Mt. Vernon.

According to police records, Lopez molested the children at night while their mother was at work.

The children reported the abuse to a family friend and were taken to Holly’s House where they took part in a forensic interview.

Indiana State Police say Lopez fled to Alabama after he was confronted about those allegations.

Authorities located him near Austinville, Alabama and took him into custody.

Lopez will be required to register as a sex offender for life. He’s also an illegal alien from Mexico, who is also detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Once he serves his prison sentence, he’ll be deported from the United States.
