WARRICK CO., Ind (WEHT) A staff member from Signature HealthCARE in Newburgh has died from coronavirus.
Coroner Sarah Seaton says the 65-year-old nurse died Friday from complications with the virus. Since the nurse lives in Spencer County, the death will not be attributed to Warrick County.
This is the 13th person from Signature HealthCARE to die from coronavirus. According to the Warrick County Health Department, 24 of the county’s 97 cases are in two long-term care facilities.
Signature HealthCARE released the following statement.
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that Signature HealthCARE of Newburgh confirms the loss of one of its beloved staff members. This is the first loss of a staff member for the facility. The loss of any of our residents or staff, for any reason, is devastating and we ask the community to keep the family of our staff member in your thoughts and prayers. Our Signature HealthCARE family is holding our staff member’s family closely in our hearts and prayers as well. In accordance with HIPAA and other legal and privacy limitations, we cannot give out any personal information concerning our residents or staff, current or former.
As of May 1, Signature HealthCARE reports a total of 41 residents and 10 staff have tested positive. 10 of those positive cases have recovered.
Coroner Seaton has said she believes the Warrick County Health Department needs to be more open about its COVID-19 cases.
