Castle football fundraiser causes problems amid coronavirus pandemic

Coronavirus Watch Indiana

NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEHT) – Castle’s football team participated in their 14th annual mulch sale Saturday, but community members started grabbing some of their mulch too early.

The coronavirus pandemic stopped the mulch deliveries, so some people went to their site and took their previously paid for mulch.

The Castle Parent’s Club president says he is looking forward to continuing their fundraiser but is disappointed in some of the community members actions.

“We tried to wait until the stay-at-home order was lifted but there was kind of an uproar on Facebook and we had people coming over and taking their mulch. We thought we should get a handle on it and be here today and we said, ‘if you’d like to get your mulch, please check in so we adjust our routing,'” said Mark Clark.

The team will continue to do pickups and are hopeful they can do deliveries in the near future.
