Ky. (WEHT) — Kentucky Congressman Brett Guthrie said he wants to make sure Congress is giving states money they need to fight the virus -not to bail them out for making bad decisions.
It comes after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell suggested that states like Illinois could file for bankruptcy to get out from under public employee pension debt.
“There’s states across the county that were on the verge of having to take some very difficult, make some difficult decisions, and they still need to do that. We need to address the emergency and be like if a state was having to face a difficult decision and had a hurricane or tornado or whatever, we would still be there to help but we don’t, states don’t need view this as an opportunity for taxpayers from other states what they had as bad decisions,” Guthrie said.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker responded, saying while Senator McConnell is important in the process in getting things done in Washington – many senators disagree with him.
