EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — With fewer people donating due to coronavirus fears, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is urging more people to give blood.
The agency says blood centers throughout the country have been experiencing a significant drop in donations in the past week.
And, that could lead to cancellations of surgeries.
The FDA also adds that the coronavirus does not pose any known risk to blood donors during the donation process.
They also say the virus poses no known risk to patients receiving blood transfusions.
Right now, there are not any confirmed cases of coronavirus in our tri-state area.
