(WEHT)- Antibodies from a Belgian llama named Winter have shown promise in preventing COVID-19 from infecting human cells.

In the past, researchers have also used llamas to find therapies for other viruses. Scientists hope the llama antibodies can be a preventative measure for uninfected people, including healthcare workers.

The protection is believed to be immediate, but temporary, lasting a month or two before injections are needed again.
