Crews Respond to Fire in Mt. Vernon

UPDATE:

Fire officials say the fire has been ruled accidental but the cause remains undetermined.

PREVIOUS:

Eyewitness News was on the scene of a house fire in Mt. Vernon on Thursday.

Crews from at least four fire departments were on the scene working to get the fire under control.

This happened on Stonewood Dr. off of Ford Rd.

Right now, investigators say they know it started in the garage, but they’re not sure how it started.

District Chief of Marrs Township Dale Wilzbacher says, “Not for sure what started it yet. We haven’t gotten that far. The fire is tapped out so now they’re salvaging overall. They’re going in and covering up pictures and those things. They’re bringing out furniture and pictures that they can salvage for the owners.”

Responding firefighters say they had to pull dry wall out of the kitchen and bedrooms to be able to extinguish the fire in the roof.

One person was home at the time of the fire, but they weren’t hurt.
