EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT)- It’s been a lingering question in the days after a nationwide manhunt for Vicky and Casey White ended in dramatic fashion in Evansville- who booked their room at the Motel 41?
On Wednesday, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding confirmed an earlier report from our media partners at the Evansville Courier & Press, saying Shawn Gardner, 51, booked the room at the motel sometime after the Whites arrived in Evansville.
While Gardner has since been arrested on unrelated drug charges, Sheriff Wedding says it’s unlikely that he will face charges in connection to booking the room. Wedding adds that there’s nothing yet to indicate that Gardner knew the Whites, or vice versa. Motel employees declined to speak on camera but said they didn’t suspect anything out of the ordinary when Gardner booked the room.
Gardner is on the National Sex Offender Registry in connection to an almost 20-year-old conviction for the attempted rape of a then-80-year-old Evansville woman just before Halloween 2002. Gardner has declined to speak to the media in connection to his meeting with the Whites.
